Future of Power Wrap Up
November/December 2008
For the past year, articles in both the CHELCO News and CHELCO E-Newsletter have been informing members about the future of power generation.
Both publications have examined the challenges that all electric utilities and their respective members are facing due to the rising costs of natural resources, increased consumer demand and government legislation.
The articles began in January 2008 from a global perspective, examining how the developing nations of India and China are affecting natural resource supplies and ultimately the market price for the resources.
The next series of articles explored the challenges from a national level. The articles detailed what utilities were doing to solve the generation supply and demand dilemma, including utilizing renewable energy sources.
Then several articles were published discussing what is happening in the State of Florida with the new energy policies and the potential for using renewable resources. They conveyed valuable information regarding state and federal rebate information for renewable resources such as wind and solar arrays.
The last articles in the series concluded with what is on the horizon for both CHELCO and its power supplier, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. This month’s CHELCO News features an interview with both CEOs discussing the challenges facing the cooperatives now and in the immediate future.
Our Future of Power Generation series will conclude January 2009 with a survey that CHELCO will be sending to your home mid month. We are asking our members’ feedback regarding the information in the series and the challenges we are facing with power generation in the future. Your feedback is important to us and will aide in shaping decisions in the future.
