Single Phase Service Guidelines
(New House Construction)
1. Contact our Marketing Department to obtain a heating and
cooling load code form. You
can pick up a code form application at any of our area offices (Call 1-800-342-0990
or click here for
locations and directions).
Please Note: Allow 5 to 7 business days for turn around,
due to workload.
2. Contact your County Building Department to apply for a building
permit.
Holmes County (850) 547-1110
Okaloosa County (850)
689-5080 or (850) 651-7180
Santa Rosa County (850) 981-7000
Walton County (850) 892-8160
or (850) 267-2084
3. Apply for new service at one of our
local offices. A deposit may be required and you will
need to provide the County Building Permit number, good driving
directions, and a contact phone number. Click on the link below
to access the application.
4. The Design Technician for your area will be issued a project ID
number for your job after you apply for service. If you need to talk to,
or meet with the design technician, please have this noted on your
application.
Please Note: Due to workload, it may take 2-3 working days before
you are contacted by the Design Technician.
(If you don't need temporary power to construct your house, skip to
#8)
5. If needed, the Design Technician will spot the location of your temporary pole.
Depending on the location and distance from existing power lines,
primary (high voltage) lines may need to be built first. Easements
and aid to construction cost may be required.
6. Temporary poles will need to be inspected by the county. When your temp
pole is in place, call the county and have them inspect it. The
county will notify CHELCO when it passes inspection.
7. Our service crews will hook up the temporary pole.
Please Note: This may be 2 or 3 working days after the inspection is
received.
8. Let us know immediately when the meter base is installed and ready
for permanent service. If your service is underground, the
3" schedule 80 riser pipe must be installed from the meter
base past the footer to 30" below final grade. (Reference
photo to the right and
Service Entrance Diagram) Please let us know as soon as
possible, so the service can be dug and ready before you get your
final inspection.
9. The Design Technician will return to the job site and
prepare your project for the crews. If any easements or aid
to construction costs are needed, you will be notified.
White flags will be placed in the path of the underground
wire. Please make sure the path is clear of anything that
could prevent our crews from being able to dig. We need a
path at least 8 feet wide.
Please Note: This may be 2 or 3 working days after you call in your
meter base.

10. Our crews will install or dig in your service.
Please Note: If your service is OVERHEAD, this may be 2 or
3 working days after the Design Technician releases the job.
Please Note: If your service UNDERGROUND, this may be 5 to
7 working days,
and possibly more, weather permitting.
11. Request your final inspection from the County. The County will
notify CHELCO when the service has passed inspection.
12. Our service crews will make the final connections to your
service.
Please Note: This may be 2 or 3 working days after we are notified
of your final inspection.
Please Note: Failure to complete any of the above steps
will cause a delay in getting your power turned on. Also, if
CHELCO crews are sent to a job and all of the requirements have
not been completed, a trip charge of up to $250 will apply.
