In this hurricane restoration update, Steve Rhodes, CEO of CHELCO, provides an overview of recovery efforts following significant storm damage. More than 400 workers, including CHELCO employees, contract crews, and right-of-way personnel, were actively restoring power across the system. Crews successfully restored service to 10 of the 16 substations impacted by transmission outages, and approximately 10,000 members had their power restored by the end of the day.
To accelerate restoration efforts, CHELCO established a 1,000-bed base camp and welcomed hundreds of additional lineworkers from across the Southeast. The total restoration workforce was expected to grow to 1,400 personnel, including more than 1,000 line technicians. While restoration progress was steady, Rhodes explained that the extent of the damage prevented CHELCO from providing estimated restoration times. He thanked members for their patience and encouraged everyone to stay safe as crews continued working around the clock.
