CHELCO will provide members purchasing a new manufactured home or upgrading the heating and cooling system in an existing manufactured home with a rebate of $200-$2,000 for upgrading their heating and cooling system from an electric furnace and central air conditioner to a high efficiency heat pump.
We will also provide a rebate of $100 to manufactured home dealers for any new home sold with a qualified heat pump installed and a rebate of $100 to air conditioning and heating contractors who install a qualified heat pump in an existing manufactured home.
CHELCO purchases power in part based on the maximum system demand for electricity. The annual maximum system electrical demand is typically set during the coldest months. Electric furnaces require significantly more electricity to operate, often resulting in higher winter bills, and their use can contribute significantly to increasing CHELCO's overall electrical system demand.
Unlike conventionally constructed homes, manufactured housing is not governed by Florida's stringent energy code, and often comes with an electric furnace installed. By installing a heat pump when buying new, or replacing an existing electric furnace and central air conditioner, you can receive a rebate and stand to save up to $550 annually on your heating costs. Additionally, you can help CHELCO and your fellow CHELCO members control and even reduce our electrical demand, which helps us control energy costs.
