Restoring power following Hurricane Isaias is a massive undertaking, and CHELCO is bringing in every available resource to get the lights back on as safely and quickly as possible.
Here’s a look at the people and resources working to restore power to our members:
400+ linemen and support personnel are working today, including more than 172 linemen in the field, supported by 62 right-of-way (ROW) technicians and 160 support personnel. These teams are handling everything from damage assessments and transportation to food, fuel, vehicle services, and energy control.
A 1,000-person base camp is being established to support the massive restoration effort. By the end of today, the camp will be in place and ready to accommodate incoming crews.
More help is on the way! An additional 400 mutual aid and contractor linemen are expected to be ready to work Sunday morning, with another 500 arriving to work Monday morning.
By Monday morning, more than 1,400 linemen, ROW technicians, and support personnel are expected to be working on restoration efforts, including more than 1,000 linemen
PROGRESS UPDATE — 8:30 PM
When outages peaked at more than 71,000 members, the scale of the damage was clear. As of 8:30 PM, the number of members without power has dropped below 48,000. That means approximately one-third of affected members have had their power restored.
This is easily the largest storm response in CHELCO’s history, and there is still much work to be done. We are bringing in the people, equipment, and resources necessary to meet this challenge.
We are grateful to our employees, mutual aid crews, contractors, and support personnel who are working tirelessly to restore service to our communities. We have an incredible team on the ground, and we will continue working until every member’s power is restored. Thank you also to our call center staff who have worked tirelessly responding to thousands of phone calls to help our members.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this historic restoration effort.
