(DeFuniak Springs, Oct. 29) – As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, CHELCO has approximately 120 members without power following Hurricane Zeta, which made landfall in southeastern Louisiana late Wednesday afternoon as a Category 2 hurricane.

Throughout the duration of the storm, approximately 6,700 total members were affected by more than 90 outages. Hurricane Zeta’s outer bands brought gusts of up to 70 mph to CHELCO’s service territory overnight, but did not cause major widespread damage to CHELCO equipment.

“We are thankful that Hurricane Zeta did not leave our area with significant damage,” CEO Steve Rhodes said. “Once again, I’m proud of our team’s quick response to safely restore power to our members. As our crews near restoration Thursday afternoon, we appreciate the patience and support our members have shown.”

CHELCO is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative serving more than 56,000 accounts in Walton, Okaloosa, Holmes and Santa Rosa counties.
